The authors of this article constructed a smart photodynamic therapy (PDT) system based on a combination of peony-shaped ferroselite FeSe<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0particles and zinc (II) phthalocyanine (ZnPc) photosensitizers.<\/p>\n<p>Effective energy transfer occurred from ZnPc to FeSe<sub>2<\/sub>, because of their proximity, thus eliciting the OFF state of ZnPc photosensitizers. Under 808 nm NIR light irradiation, the photothermal effect of FeSe<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0promoted the release of ZnPc, thus turning on the photodynamic effect of the photosensitizers (ON state). In vitro, FeSe<sub>2<\/sub>-ZnPc exhibited high photo-to-thermal conversion efficiency (26.4%) and effective generation of reactive oxygen species for combined photothermal\/photodynamic therapy.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the FeSe<sub>2<\/sub>-ZnPc hybrids have great potential to serve as alternatives to antibiotics for eradication of pathogenic bacteria.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scienceopen.com\/hosted-document?doi=10.15212\/AMM-2023-0012\">https:\/\/www.scienceopen.com\/hosted-document?doi=10.15212\/AMM-2023-0012<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Acta Materia Medica<\/em> welcomes the submission of research articles, review articles, databases, mini reviews, commentaries, editorials, short communications, case report articles and study protocols.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission Process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submissions <em>to Acta Materia Medica<\/em> are made using ScholarOne, the online submission and peer review system.
